Kenosha’s National Bike Month Gives Some Great Biking Opportunities

Even though The League of American Bicyclists declared May as Bike National Bike Month in 1956, Wisconsin has decided to move it to June.

Wisconsin Bike Month Moved To June

Due to weather conditions, Kenosha County has chosen to recognize June as Kenosha’s National Bike Month.

This recognition will lead to community events such as bike-to-work weeks, the opening of the Silver Lake Mountain Bike Trail, and a ride to the annual Kenosha County Dairy Breakfast.

Silver Lake Mountain Bike Trail

The grand opening of this trail will be at noon on June 4 in Silver Lake Park, 27000 85th St. Kenosha County.

Executive Jim Kreuser will open the trail at 1 p.m. with an official “chain cutting” ceremony.

There will also be a youth mountain biking event on June 11 for kids 6-16.

This ride is paired with the nationwide Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, supported by the International Mountain Bicycling Association.

Bike It to Work

June 5-18 are bike-to-work weeks.

Participants can enter their mileage online for a drawing to win prizes!

So you could win stuff, live healthier, and be helping the environment.

There’s seriously no way you could lose in this situation.

The initiative was started last year by the office of the Kenosha County executive.

Other groups involved include ExposeKenosha, the Kenosha County Multi-use Trail Committee and the Kenosha Bicycle Ambassadors.

Registration and mileage entries can be found at www.kenoshacounty.org/bikecontest.

Ride to Breakfast

The final event will be DairyAir, a community bike ride from Silver Lake Park to the Crane dairy farm for breakfast.

The event begins 7 a.m. on June 18.

Riders have their choice of either a 25-mile round trip or a 10.2-mile ride.

Registration for this event is at www.dairyair.eventbrite.com. Call 262-653-2600 for more information.

So if you’ve got a bike, you’re in the Kenosha area, and you’re looking for incentives to ride, Kenosha County Bike Month has got you covered.

It’s shaping up to be a lot of fun, and you won’t want to miss it!
